    So my restore cd's are getting a bit on the near scratch side, since i know they can be pretty costly trying to purchase from factory again - i was wondering if theres anyway i can make backup copys of them?

    I have 3 altogether emachines, anyone know if/how i can do it

    I use a program like CloneCD, which can copy about anything. I'm sure there are freeware programs that can do the same.

    O.k. ive done that from my cd rom to dvd writer/player

    But what if i want to copy a movie? But ive only got one drive my dvd-rw that plays the movie - how can i burn it when i need my drive that does the "writing" to play it?

    Rip to your Harddrive. Burn back to a disc. If it's a copy-protected disc, you'll need a decrypting ripper.

    most of the disc copying programs recognize that you only have one player/burner. That is why they will say, insert disc to copy. Then when it is finished copying it will prompt you to put in a blank disc to copy to.
    or you can do as a previous responder said. copy to hdd first then burn to disc.
