I have a Plextor px-740a for a little over 1 year now. My system started messing up and would not boot, so I ended up having to replace my motherboard and psu. Everything started working again, but my plextor never came back for some reason. It will not eject or be recognized by windows. I tried everything and no go, so I guess its bad.

What I need help with to choose a good new burner to buy. I want a dual-layer that will have good compatibility with burning dvd-+r's. I have looked at the plextor px-760a, but do not know if its a good model.

Any good advice for a nice dvdr? I would rather not spend much more than $100 and less is always great. I can use SATA or IDE, but I am a bit afraid of SATA and if I ever have to boot from it, the drivers are a bit flaky.

    Any feedback appreciated.

Any of the new name brand models would be sufficient. They are all similar and most IDE models are under $50. Just browse through the selection over at newegg.com

Regarding Brand NEC has a good DL drive -- 3550A I believe. I also bought a I/O Magic drive that was a rebadged BenQ DL that is running flawlessly.

I have a 3500, 3520, and a 3540. All have worked flawlessly for me. However, I have heard mixed reviews on the 3550's.
