Hello, i'd like to know how to convert 2cd Divx's to a 1cd Divx without losing too much quality in the conversion.

At the moment the only thing i can think of is converting to DVD and then using AutoGk to reconvert it back to Divx with only a 700MB size.

    Thank you.

??? I don't think you'll like the results. Assuming that both discs are full you're talking about recompressing nearly 1.5gb to 700mb without taking a quality hit? It won't look the same as the original thats for sure.

What you could do assuming you have a dvd player that plays divx is simply burn the two divx files onto one dvdr then you won't have to swap discs out. Assuming of course you have a dvd burner on your computer. If you don't have one that may explain why you are still using cds. I would suggest if quality is important you might think about buying a dvd burner - you can get one for $30-$40 new online at places like newegg and tigerdirect.

Thanks, I use dvd's and my player plays divx. The thing is I archive my DVd's when i'm done with thme (I have an HTPC that i stream my movies from my server with). And i made these customer covers and stuff. I normally fit 5 movies per dvd.

But more and more of the movies are coming in 2 cd sets, I can only fit 3 movies at that point.

I don't mind taking some quality hit, but the least possible. And I also don't mind converting the sound form 6channel to 2channel.

Without loosing too much quality? I doubt it. 1/2 the size will likely mean 1/2 the quality. Check the bitrate with Gspot 2.60, then encode a short representative clip at half that and see how it looks.

For just a quick encode you could try SUPER. But if you want to preserve much quality it will take some fine tuning of the codec and you may be able to make it watchable, it depends on your expectations. For that maybe VirtualDub and a good knowledge of the Divx codec will be needed.

    And welcome to our forums.

Just load your 1 CD AVI in AutoGK and set it to output to 1/2 CD size.
    Repeat for the 2nd AVI.
If you want to, you can then merge these with VirtualDub.
But as Yoda says, it wont look too hot...

Wow, you're all so quick to reply. Thanks a lot.

I wasn't even aware that AutoGK can convert a Avi to another AVI. I'm testing a conversion now and i'll compare how it is. I'm new to all this and i'm stilll earning most of these terms. I honetly though resolution was the best way to see what the result was, i didn't even know about bitrate...

What is an authentic DVD's Bitrate? (Just like to know what i'm comparing it with.)

Dvd bitrate varies all over the place. There is no "true" rule for it. Manufacturers use whatever they feel is right. Also if its single layer or dual layer makes a difference. Also depends on how much extras they throw on it.
