I captured a stream from my cablebox using firewire. I was surprised to find that the file, which I expected to be a .ts is an mpeg. As an mpeg, it would not play in WMP or open in HDTVtoMPEG2 so I changed the extension to .ts and I was able to open it in HDTVtoMPEG2. I was then able to convert the clip.
Problem is, the new mpeg plays in WMP with no sound.
1) Any thoughts?
2) Is there a way to play ts files natively?
EDIT - ok, I can play the ts file with videolan. The sound is there. Any thoughts on why the sound is dropping during conversion?

Try using projectx for hdtv files. You can use it to strip out the video and audio to do seperate conversions. I use it to demux the video to m2v and then convert with tempgenc plus to dvd compatible format and mux with the original ac3 file.
