  1. Has anyone use PGCEdit. or any of the editing programs here for professional use. I mean making an edit then sending off DLTs to a replicator for a several thousand unit run?

I've been using AfterEdit on the Mac for most of my work but LOVE PGCEdit ALOT. Just curious if I should be concerned about this. Any issue arise when these tools Re-Mux My TS Folder?

Well , none that I have found ... so far , and I do recommend user's use freeware before commercial product's as there is more help available .

Freeware is also less restrictive by nature , but may require more than 2 program's to get the required end result , and requires some knowledge .

The problem with mass production is more likely to do with "authoring error" and / or the pre-master disc being sent ... being not all media , drive's , pc's ... yes , you've got a mac ... being equal .

This is why , when thinking of such thing's , one must not just rely on one system ... multiple's for confirmation should be used first before the master is sent anywhere .

PS : Pgcedit dosent mux ... that issue would arise from the authoring tool ... in your case being "afteredit" .

  3. Thanks Bjs.

I recently recieved some work from a client to remove some disc's FBI/Logos which are on DLT only. AfterEdit is great for extracting the image or a TS folder from the tapes along with the premastering back to DLT but PGCEdit has many more features for sure. I've been happy with AfterEdit more some years now and its been very stable - at this point I've had over 100,000 discs replicated with it - was just wondering how PGCEdit matches up

When would one might use different apps to achieve final results. Just curious..PGCEdit seems it could accomplish just about every job I could imagine. Could you give some examples?

    Thanks for the time.

Between the two involved ... remember we are talking about to similar product's , yet different .

Afteredit , is like sony dvd architect , and dvdlab ... capable of menu generation , muxing of included content , nav stucture and more .

Pgcedit is capable of nav stucture editing , dvd content replacement / inclusion , error checking and more , but dose nothing in relation to muxing of dvd content .

Pgcedit is very good at many thing's , especially being a tool capable of crossing the boundaries between mac , linux and windows .

The ability to jump straight in and repair nav command's quickly prior to the pre-master disc being created is exceptional on it's own , when considering the fact most other tool's require you to save the project , and possibly still retain the original content that was included , in order to fix issue's , and reauthor the entire project once more which is a waste of time in 85% of case's .

    ---------------

When would you use one or the other ?

You simply use the tool of your choosing to generate menu's , title's component's , basic navigational structure , and author .

Pgcedit should be used to check navigational structure (afteredit may have some issues from forum reports with nav commands) , replacement / removal / add ... related to menu's , title's , nav command's and save .

Handy when correcting dvd structure , when original source file's are no longer available , or on another system and error checking of structure prior to making the pre-master disk.

  5. Thanks for your time. I'll use PGCEdit on this next job and run it through with Eclispe and MEI reports and see what happens. Will keep you posted.
