I am new to DVD writing. I have a NEC ND 3520A DVD RW.
On explorer when I open the directory tree, the drive for my dvd shows "DVD-RW Drive (D" On putting a DVD RW blank disk in it, autoplay gives me the option of burn disk and then the explorer shows "CD Drive (D
".
With a disk in the drive if I right click on the explorer, properties- general show that the disk is 0bytes used space, 0bytes free space and capacity as 0 bytes.
Properties - Hardware shows "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A" under All Disk Drives and DVD/CD ROM under type. Also device status shows it is working properly./
If I try to copy a file into queue, error message is "Windows encountered a problem trying to copy the file".
I have cleaned the drive but it just isn't working.
Please advise what I need to do?

What programs have you used to try to burn a DVD? Nero? Even if you don't have Nero on your system, you might download Nero Info Tool: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/ It may tell you a little more about your settings and hardware and may show any problems. For burning DVDs, also try the freeware ImgBurn.
Another possibility is that your drive is in PIO mode instead of DMA 2-4, but that usually just effects speed. Nero Info Tool should show that also.
Try some of these suggestions first. If it still doesn't work, then it could be a problem with Windows, or the cabling to the drive or a problem with the drive. I assume this is a drive in the computer, not an external one?
And welcome to our forums.
