I have an apex ad-1201 dvd player I inherited from my mom. I do not have the owner's manual or the remote control. I have searched this forum for a similar question and also other web sites, but no luck so far. I recently subscribed to Netflix, and although I can always watch the movie with no problem, if I try to access any special features by using the dvd player's 'next' button on a menu page, a hand appears (looks like a stop signal) and I am unable to move to the next item on the menu. Is this a dvd player problem or a problem w/Netflix dvds or what? I am now trying to view an instructional video with several sections, but I can only get to the first one. Although I don't think this matters, I had to route the dvd player through the vcr because my tv is nearly 20 years old and doesn't have the right connections. The cable is also routed through the vcr due to tuner problems with my 20-year-old tv. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I should add that the 'next' button sometimes works like I think it should - I can use it to skip past the previews before the movie. Also, in listing possible problem areas, I forgot to include stupid user error.

Netflix DVDs are just commercial DVDs - same you would by anywhere else. I suspect it is just a limitation of the player's on-board controls. Most players simply are not designed to work without a remote control. Buy a cheap, pre-programmed universal remote if you can get one form the manufacturer.

I don't have a AD1201 but the next button usually is for next chapter. Have you tried the navagation buttons for menu stuff?

The next button is generally programmed to skip only to the next chapter, however it can be programmed differently on a disc by disc or even title by title basis.
