I own an original DVD movie (ROTK extended edition) which is awesome overall but i don't like certain parts of it (a few scenes which were added in the extended cut) so i want to cut them out. Because some scenes cannot simply be cut out without making it obvious since the soundtrack is differently arranged in the extended cut and it would mean an odd break in the music i'd need to get rid of whole parts of the movie and replace them with parts of the theatrical cut. Which program allows me to do that relatively fast and easy (i'm quite the noob) and in a way that makes the result seamless and the same quality as the original?
Please help!

just buy a copy of the original would be far easier (ive seen them for 9 - 12 $)

Maybe i wasn't clear enough (sorry, english is not my primary language): i only want to get rid of 2 or 3 of the extended scenes, not all. I own the theatrical cut as well but i generally prefer the extended version.

use the fast forward button on the remote --
or be be prepared for many many hours of work really .....
is it really worth it ?
if it is - read some of the guides here ..... you will need a fair number of tools to do the job... do NOT shrink or recompress such a disk or you will ruin it ... since it also has DTS - you will need to edit the DTS track also ..... in which you will need a DTS encoder ( 2000$) ... to skip this step would also (IMO) make the disk worthless - well then again ,,,, editing such content is pretty well ruining it anyway ....."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Please, isn't anyone here who can give me some more advice than just "read the guides"?
Yes, there are plenty of guides, but i have no idea which one would be best suited for my case and i would really like to hear some suggestions regarding the program(s) to use.
I can't imagine it being that difficult. Other than dealing with AC3 instead of stereo (the english track of the german DVD is only in AC3, so DTS is a no issue), what other differences can there be compared to editting some ordinary mpeg or divx videos (not counting the (re)authoring - which i already have some experience with using DVD Lab)? -
Just use this:
http://www.squared5.com/
Open the VOB file with the movie. Save as an AVI. Edit out the parts you dont like. Re-encode back to MPEG 2 and author. -
Freeware solution: I would pgcdemux the dvd to video and audio files. Edit it with Cuttermaran. No video quality loss.

Thanks for the suggestions. Cuttermaran seems to be the program for my needs...
