If you demux a stream (ie. audio) from video. Is this demuxing process always losless?
I mean when you demux the audio, will the demuxed audiofile be "exactly" as what was
    stored in the video file?

I always thought so, until I had a bad experience with vdubmod recently and I don't
know wich process detroyed my audio, the demuxing with vdubmod,
    or muxing process with MKVmerge.

Question 2: Can you recommend other tools besides vdubmod who are reliable
    stream-demuxers for avi?

Lossless? Yes, as long as there wasn't something else that was part of the container stream that won't be in the elementary streams (nothing I can think of)...

    Good apps:

    2 programs come to mind:

    AVIMux GUI

    and

AVIMux (old app), which I have mirrored: http://www.cornucopiadm.com/goodies/avimux.exe
