Solution--> my standalone player doesn't like a 29.97 framerate in an avi...It seems that whenever I choose to create an AVI with these presets using mencoder, my standalone player chokes on it. The files are VOBs I've extracted using MTR and then saved as mpegs with MPEG Streamclip (ffmpeg doesn't like VOB files). I've tried enabling/disabling most of the options with the same result. Worse still, if I switch to the ffmpeg engine, when I fast forward the video on my standalone, I'll lose audio (it doesn't go out of sync, it just disappears). The only success I've had is by opening the ffmpeg output in Avidemux and saving it (straight copy). I realize that standalone players can be finicky, but I've never had a problem playing AVIs made by other methods. Is anyone else having similar problems?
