The same happens for me. I, however, access my mini from my laptop using VNC and I assumed that was part of the problem. I have been closing the player from the menu, but I will try using one of the other methods tonight. I will post a screenshot of the error if you would like.

You must not use the Quit command to quit mplayer. It doesn't work. Use the RETURN key.

Return works for me!
I have allways used the close button from the mplayer window.
my mac minis are intel, i nerver had this problem on PPC
