I have a PAL format DV tape that is about 60 min in length. I need to have the content split to multiple DVDRs and saved as DV files. I cannot do the tape to PC transfer myself since I don't have the equipment. Can someone recommend someplace that can do this for me?

  2. Just rent a DV camcorder for a day from rent a center and do it yourself.
Probably the cheapest way to do it.

I doubt any local rental place here in the States has a PAL unit though.

  4. Oh yeah my mistake sorry.

There are places that convert PAL to NTSC dvd/vhs.
I would call one and ask if they do it, if not they probably know somewhere that does.

I have called a number of them so far. They only seem to do DV to compliant DVD conversions. Not transfer of the DV file format to DVD disc.

    Update:

I have reached a few professional places that can do this. I was amazed at how much they want to charge for this procedure.

Is there anyone here from a PAL region that can easily get this done?

If I knew how to get DV files(instead of .avi) from a DV tape....and if I wasn't 4000 miles away I would do it for you....
I'm doing some DV-ing tomorrow as a matter of fact....just gotta defrag my video drive.

The pros will do a good job but for a price. Best place to find a cheap PAL dub house (+PC DVD smarts) is in a Chinese community in the USA (like SF Bay area or NYC). They are always transferring PAL to NTSC and back to move material back and forth to Hong Kong and China. Many a Chinese laundry has a tape dub business upstairs. Look for a full serive dub house.

In the 80's, a budget ($5K to $50K then) format converter manufacturer in the UK found his largest customer segment was American Chinese laundries! Came as quite a surprise.
