Lately my adobe media converter n premiere pro 1.5 (Mainconcept) has been doing really bad conversions. I had an hour on the timeline, chose NTSC generic mpeg-2 vbr 2 pass and when converted, the video was a smidgen blurry, started to jump, them froze.

I then exported as an avi and used tmpgenc with the same settings (and motion to normal) and it came out fantastic.

This happened for three different projects, I had used the media encoder before with fine results. Any ideas as to what I might have done to it?

On both projects, no other programs were on, internet pulled, antivirus off, defragged, plenty of external hard drive space.

If this helps, a 20 minute project in Mainconcept came out as 640KB with 83% quality (AVIcodec), but it was jumpy and froze. The same one exported as an avi, the using TMPG came out 1.1G with quality at 73%.

Thanks for any help or comments.

ONe other question, I chose mpeg-2 for both conversions, but according to AVIcodec, using Mainconcept came out mpeg-2, but all my projects in TMPG keep registering as mpeg-1 (VCD).
Using G-SPOT, they are all registered as MPEG-2s. What gives?

    Thanks again

I wouldn't take the quality report in avicodec that serious.

What bitrate are you using? 640kb for 20 minutes doesn't sound correct.

avicodec says the bitrate was 8000 for tmpg, and 6000 for media encoder, is this what you mean?

Bitrate is actually the next step in the learning process for me.
