Ok, so I really stink at this part if it's anything more than an .avi or mpeg-2....

I made a short video (3.5min) for my wife's thesis presentation. It needs to be part of a powerpoint presentation (but if need be I can just put it on as an attachment), and sent via email to the professors. My connection is 256K. I am using Adobe 6.5, but have access to pro 1.5 if need be.

Of course I want the best quality, but am having trouble exporting. I tried mpeg-1 at 640X480 (at a buddy's suggestion), but the playback was not too good. Looks fantastic as an .avi, but is 805mb (would that be too big?). Could anyone lend a hand? I've been researching, but seems the more I do so, the more I get confused. I am still doing so, but thought I'd ask because we need this as soon as possible (today would be perfect).

I'll be testing out other eports in the meantime... thanks!

For PowerPoint I would try WMV. It is M$'s format, and the one that works best in M$ product.

  4. might try using an mp4 codec such as Dixv, Xvid (freeware) for an AVI file. think certain versions of PP can play these back. what codec did you encode your video with? Maybe your video was uncompressed.

at 800 megs you might get a fairly good 2 HOUR video at a slightly lower resolution (605 x 3??). so a 3.5 min. video file would be very small indeed.

gunslinger: just did it and it looks way better. There are some so-so images due to movement. I was kind of surprised that there were so many choices vor WMV. I chose "best quality for broadband" but unsure if that is what I needed. Would this be the best setting for powerpoint?

    thanks again

Noki: the avi was uncompressed, I'll also try to compress it and use xvid, the codec was Sony Video digital or, dvsd. I forgot how to change codecs for converting....
