Hi all, I have funny problem in my older TDK (edit: not TEAC) drive. It used to be my main burner until I bought new Sony to replace it and it goes to my 'server' computer (still use XP but run 24hr and do print server).
If there is a disc inside the drive and my computer has not been rebooted for days then the drive refuses to open when I push open/close button. The drive itself seems want to eject but it only open few milimeters then it change its mind and close again. If I am lucky I can catch the drive door as it about to open and force it to open by hand. I need to shutdown computer for about 15min and start again before I can eject it.
Now I thought heat may do this BUT if the drive is empty I can open the door regardless my computer has been running for weeks.
Another thing is it seems that Nero 7.5.1.1 do auto close after I open the drive for few seconds. Is there anyway I disable or delay this. Sometime the door close before I completely take the disc and squezzing the disc with the door and scratch it.
Thanks in advance anyone for your explanation/help.

You'll find the issue is the drive itself , and the problem seem's to happen / get worse after the unit has warmed up ...

Try running the same test when its cooler in the room the pc is in , and see if it rehappen's after the first hour .

In most case's , age has caught up with internal drive components ... those idiot switch's built inside the unit that the disc tray press's against , they act as sensor's to tell it when the drive is open or closed , they wear out eventually .

The drive also run's cooler when no disc is inside , but when a disc is inserted , the disc is kept available to the system , and power is supplied to the drive component's on a "need to access" basis when called by the os , even if you dont access the drive .

    Best to replace it .

Well, it make sense that the drive is hotter with disc inside. But I seldom use it again so it is quite OK, just need it to install/read not burning so not very critical. I can also use network and share other drive just in case.
The problem first appear when I got the computer run for a week (24hrx7). I live in tropical area so it may explain the heat.
Any idea about Nero auto close?
