    it seems in the PC world there are programs that make a jpg of a collection of stills from a movie. is there a similar program for the Mac?

    Its manual, but MPEG Streamclip can do it. For MPEG2 video, you'll need the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component installed.

    thanks for these tips

    I was looking for something that might do this 'automatically' don't know if the PC world has this but it must take forever to do it manually.

    I do know how to take a few shots from time to time as above.
