Hello all--
I'm capturing VHS-C with a JVC- HR9800U, Canopus ADVC 110, Datavideo TBC-1000 and using Premiere Elements 2.0. Previous captures have been flawless. My latest tape 'shudders' through most of the capture, mostly the last part. I played this tape on my Quasar VCR and it's fine. I tried manually changing the tracking--no change. I cleaned the heads--no change. I tried a second capture and it was a little better, though this time with dropped frames. I put in other tapes that I have captured and they are fine. I tried another VHS-C tape: same result. I did get another graphics card and had huge driver problems that a few gracious folks here solved for me, but that's all that has changed since my good captures. One other thing is different: one of my computer speakers is buzzing now when I capture. Strange. Any ideas?
Thanks
Theresa

From my experience some tapes will just simply play better on different machines. If a tape will only play flawlessly on a particular machine then stick with that machine for that tape's capture.
I have a JVC HR S7965 (along with a Datavideo TBC-100 and ADVC-50) and there has been the rare occastion where a tape on the JVC won't play properly i.e. jitters or tearing. The answer has been to bring in an older VCR. A reduction in picture quality, sure, but at least it would be stable.Cole -
Hi Cole--
Makes good sense. I'll quit beat my head against the wall and follow your advice. Thanks so much for posting!

Sounds like an interlace issue. Research the topic.

Hi Theresa,
I think your JVC VCR has digipure? If so, try to use the stabilizer function that's part of the built-in TBC NR circuit. I suspect that your tape might be stretched. On stretched tapes, the stabilizer really helps. -
Thank you, Lord Smurf. I'll read up on the subject, though with my lack of know-how, it's questionable if I will understand anything how to correct it!
But I will try.
Barnabas--Thanks for your advice. I'm getting out the manual right now to see how to do that. I haven't played these tapes before now--too afraid I would damage them--but some of them did get some water damage. [I had a housefire and when moving back in, someone put my tapes on the basement floor and, of course, we had a heavy rainstorm.]
Thanks so much!
Theresa
