Hi, I'm a n00b as you can see from my join date and my total amount of posts...but I've used a lot of A+ quality guides from this site.

I've tried searching the net, but I wasn't really able to find anything decent or even remotely what I needed.

It's basically a simple question for you more advanced DVD authoring people, here goes...

Is it possible for me to edit an existing DVD menu and use it for a DVD I'm about to author myself?

This is the situation, I've already got Prison Break Season 01 on DVD (original), so the menu's are there and I like em, they all moving and stuff, that's always nifty.
So basically I want to use those menu's for Season two which I will make myself by encoding AVI to DVD format.

Is this possible? How would I go about editing those (season 1) menu's and if that's remotely possible, could someone take the time to explain it to me? I might have lots of questions since I'm new and all, so you'll probably have to put up with that aswell.

If that is possible, I'd also like to know if I can add my own subtitles to it and all that other stuff DVD's come with.

Thanks in advance for anyone that takes the time.

  3. Hi-

Better and easier, in my opinion, would be to start with the Season 1 DVD, menus, episodes, and all, and to replace the episodes 1-by-1 with the reencoded season 2 episodes. That way you don't have to do anything with the menus (except, I guess, edit and replace them).

You do the replacing using the "Replace" button in VobBlanker. While in VobBlanker, you can also blank out anything else you don't want, such as warnings, trailers, or other extras.

    Is this possible?

It's not only possible, but fairly easy (if you do what I suggested).

How would I go about editing those (season 1) menu's

I don't know what kind of editing you have in mind. If they're complex motion menus, then you may have your work cut out for you, especially if you're inexperienced. Here's my guide for extracting and replacing menus (the editing is up to you):

could someone take the time to explain it to me?

Not I. Do you even know how to encode? Have you never heard the expression, "Walk before you run"?

If that is possible, I'd also like to know if I can add my own subtitles to it and all that other stuff DVD's come with.

There are several guides floating around here explaining how to add subs to DVDs. Go look in the subtitle forum, maybe

Hehe, don't get me wrong, I wasn't asking you to explain how to encode the files. That I can manage.

I was just unsure about using existing menu's on other files. Your post is extremely useful, I'm going to give it a go in the morning, I'll keep you folks updated.

A big thanks to the both of you's.
