My daughter's PC (XP Sp1) gives troubles and errors in attempt to install iTunes for ipod nano.
I've tried Apple's support pages but no aval, after numerous attempts.

Is there any other software which would work to manage ipod nano (that one is not for video, just music)?

    Thank you.

Most likely because you do not have SP2 installed.

It is specifically listed on the troubleshooting page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

  4. try rockbox.(google rockbox nano) It completely replaces the IPOD firmware and then *tarrah* allows you to drag and drop your mp3 files to the IPOD. works fine but the display is not as nice as the std ipod.

Thank you all for your replies.
In the meantime I tried to use Winamp's plug-in ml_ipod and it screwed up that ipod, so now the playlists are not visible any more.
The songs are there, but the playlists are gone and it can not be played from the ipod any more.
Now she will go to a friend who has iTunes installed to see if she can fix it.

Which version of Winamp are you using? Both Winamp and ml_ipod (though Winamp doesn't use ml_ipod anymore) have been updated since the problem with ml_ipod that caused what you're experiencing. I think the only way to fix it may be to Restore the iPod.

The current version of Winamp works okay with my iPod, though I'm not sure yet if I can set Winamp to shuffle-play songs from the iPod.

There's a number of other software out that claims to be able to let you manage your iPod without iTunes, like Yamipod, ephpod, and so forth, but I haven't tried any of it.

I installed the latest version of Winamp and ml_ipod v.2.0.

Do you have to install some plug-in or it just recognizes ipod as is?

If you want to use Winamp to play the songs from your ipod, I think that you just open your ipod from My computer>ipod>explore> and find those folders where songs are stored - at least I managed to do it that way.

Hmm... ml_ipod 2.0 shouldn't have that problem, but Winamp uses a different iPod plugin, now. I'm not sure if the two could conflict. It's probably a good idea to disable or uninstall ml_ipod for the moment.

Oh, I know how to play the music on my iPod through Winamp. I just don't know if I can get it to randomly play across the board.

Sorry, I missunderstood you about the playing stuff.
I couldn't find that different ipod plugin on Winamp site. Which one is it, please?
Yes, the two will conflict, so during the ml_ipod installation, the other one is removed automatically if it exists.

Do you use only Winamp to manage your ipod or...?
    Thank you for your help.

It's included in the Winamp install package.

Actually, I normally use iTunes to manage my iPod. I've been experimenting with Winamp to play music from my iPod on an 'unsupported' Win98 system.

    Thank you.
I'll try Winamp again to see what happens.
