    Hi there,

Graphic card: Leadtek Winfast A6600GT TDH 128 Mb (AGP) / driver problem:

I can not playback the Video-formats (EMPG/MPG/WMV - there might be more !) with
Windows Media Player 9.0, except AVI-format files.
Any video playback software I have tryed are freezing !

It does not help to install separate video codecs like: XP_Video_Codec

I have tryed the following drivers:
The original Winfast installation CD-Driver (CD v. 8,6)
The latest Winfast driver for download: CD v. 9,2
    - and the latest nVIdia Forceware v. 93.71 'international' because I use
    Danish windows XP.
It makes no difference if I upgrade to Windows Media Player 10. !!

If I put back my old Winfast A280 VIVO (nVidia Ti-4200) in the PC all the video
playback works alright in Windows Media Player 9.0 and with the same driver.

How should I interpret this ?

    I have briefly tryed the A6600GT in a game; 'Half-Life 2 - Episode One'
and it works as far as I can judge, alright !!

Are there any file I can installe in order to make the A6600GT work as et should ?

Should I try and look for older drivers from nVidia ? Any suggestion for a good version from nVidia for the A6600GT ?

    - some postings in this forum about graphic drivers suggests, that the new ones are not always great !!

Video file playback issues are the result of corrupt/missing codecs.

Installing new video card drivers won't allow your pc to play files in which windows doesn't have codecs.

Install a media player such as MPC or VLC. Then try playing your files and see what happens.

    Alright,

    Thanks KK

Still not solved the problem completely yet! I can playback the mentioned video files in Internet Media Players 9/10/11 alright but my PowerDVD 5.0 (OEM) does not show the correct balance of light and colour on DVD movies. In standard setting the the picture is too dark and redish - the same pattern shows in Internet Media Player on DVD but not other types of video-files.

Obviously there is someting wrong with the default values on DVD interpretation in the programs. My guess is that the problem is not located in the programs themselves but one step earlyer !!

    It is annoying.

Ups ! 'Internet Media Player' should have been 'Windows Media Player'

PS: VLC has the same problem with the colour balance but here I can adjust in the settings and compensate in the GUI, but I have to do it every time I start up a Movie which is .......

    annoying

Though, if I use VLC (Hardware YUV DirectX output) the movie is just perfect !

Have you tried checking the video driver settings. Video playback is often affected by the video overlay settings.
