Toshiba DVD-ROM

I have a Toshiba laptop A10 S1001 with a Toshiba SD-R2412 DVD/ROM drive.
I'm in Region 4 but the player is for Region 1, and I can't change.
There are still 4 chances to change but the soft don't work.
Could someone help me to change the region.
The Windows is a XP Home - OEM - that came with the laptop.

Use a software a region free software instead, like anydvd, dvd region free, dvd43 .

I went too to “http://www.toshibaer.com/firmware/SD-R2412 Toshiba Firmware, Use DISCInfo to check the status of your drives”. and found

14 SD-R2412_1431.zip zip 156.1 KB 29-May-06 1431 for the SD-R2412 (FOR DRIVES WITH 14XX FIRMWARE ONLY!)

Question: Must I run this firmware above to change to Region 4 (Brasil)?

I download the following firmwares: R2412_1018, R2412-1031, R2412-1615, R2412-X431, made a bootable cd disc with them I try to flash a new firmware. All of them result in HEX FILE ERROR.

Coul'd someone help me with this?
