  1. Here is the thing, I decided to put all my AVI movies on DVDs to save my HD space. I then thought it would be nice if I group similar films and convert them toactual DVDs instead of just burning te date to the discs.

First task was putting 6 films on a single dvd. Each film is 700MB in AVI format. I used ConvertXtoDVD successfully and created beutiful menus, but the end result was very low quality image highly pixilized. I knew of course that fitting 6 films on a 4.7 DVd must result in a loss of quality, but then again the total zize of the AVIs is 4.2GB and the quality is great!!

What I want to do now is to find a software that would let me make menus with sounds and animation with buttons linking to the AVIs without having to convert them to VOG or such.

In other word, a program that would make a fake DVD structure with functional menues, but clicking a button would launch an AVI file on the same DVD.

    Is there anything like this?

Such a thing will ONLY work on the PC, you know... If that's wha tyou are asking for... Just create some HTML menus should do it.

If you're asking how to make menus for a DVDPlayer, the answer is "no way".

DivxMediaBuilder can be used to create menus, add chapter and subtitles to Divx encoded media, using the .divx extension. The catch is

    1. Only players certified as Divx Ultra capable will recognise and use the menus. At this stage, I believe only the Divx player application will play them on the PC with menus etc.

    2. Some players will play the files back, but ignore the menus and other features.

    3. Some players will not recognise the .divx extension and will not play the files at all.

Otherwise, either HTML or one of the free CD menu creators will have to suffice.

For avi , and home players ... not currently .

But most home players support folder navigation basics .

    Create a menu.avi

Menu.avi is just an avi with thumbnails , and under them is the folders name for the required title ... make it around 50mbs should be up long enough for you to decide which one you want .

As this avi is not in a folder and up front , it should play automatically ... you then use the remote to navigate to the required folder to start the playback of the required avi .

I'll see what mine do , I have three units ... just wondering if the choosen title ends play ... if the menu avi starts up again ... that would be nice to start with ... basic .

FWIW, my player doesn't automatically play any avis. It stops with a folder list, even if that folder is the root folder for the disc.

Yeah, I was about to say you'd probably still have to use the internal menu to find your AVI menu and load it up, on an average.

Will a DivX 6-capable player allow you to call other (separate) AVI files on a data disc from within an AVI menu? Or will you only be able to select media within the AVI that has the menu? That's what I've been wondering. Heck, I don't even know if you can do that in DivX 6 movies on the computer, let alone in a DVD player.
