I'm having a problem getting Ifoedit to change the aspect ratio without re-encoding. I have read several topics here which seem to indicate Ifoedit can do this. I was thinking I could use this to do the same trick mpeg4modifer does. The Ifoedit website is down for the count it seems. I did find a link to a guide at The Way Back Machine archve, but that link was dead Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Am I trying to get Ifoedit to do something it can't do?

I have a standalone DVD recorder (Philips DVDR3355) and I have recorded a 1/2 hour widescreen broadcast. Playback on that machine and widescreen TV is ok. Playback on another DVD Player (Philips DVD724) with 4:3 TV is not letterboxed, despite setting the video output for 4:3 letterbox. The result is tall/skinny video.

When I open the VIDEO_TS folder, both files have several references to 4:3 aspect ratio. I click everyone I see, change it to 16:9, and save it. Re-burn it and it still tall/skinny, no lettterbox. I have tried both unchecking all the options in the "static box" (regarding letterbox stuff), and also just checking the last option for letterbox. I've rechecked the files to make sure I did indeed save them with 16:9 ratios.

    Thanks in advance for helping.

Thank you for that link. It looks as if I should have left the two boxes checked on the "status" box. I'll try it when I get home.

Is that guide listed here in the tool section? I could swear I loooked at every guide for Ifoedit there.

    Thanks Again!

If that guide isn't listed in 'Tools' for IFOEdit and you find it useful, you can submit it here: https://www.videohelp.com/guides?tools=9&&archive=%25 Look to the top of the page.
