Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I love Verbatims, but it'd be nice to have a competing product that could offer the same quality. I'm still puzzled why it's taken so long for the price of DL media to drop? It's just now getting to where you can find the stuff for $1.50/disc on a somewhat regular basis -- and that usually takes bobbing between MicroCenter, Best Buy, Staples, etc. to catch the sale.

According to this link, you want to make sure to check the blue outer label for Made in Singapore and to stay away from the Made in Taiwan stuff. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=207497

Stay away from CompUSA, they are a bad company (they tried to rip me off on an online purchase, had to go through the credit card company to get the charges removed, they would not even reply to e-mails or phone calls before I got their charges labeled fraudulent). Stay away...

Yeah, I stopped going to CompUseless a long time ago. The only reason I'll go to that store is if I can't find it anywhere else. Their prices aren't competitive because they only carry the top 2 brands of any product. I hate 'em. It's funny. A few months ago, I went in there to reaffirm why I no longer patronize the place and I went over to the blank media section just to eyeball what they had. Can you believe those yay-hoos were still selling their store-branded 1x DVD-R's for some ridiculous price??? Hilarious.
And speaking of store-branded media madness, is Staples still trying to sell their branded DL media for, like, $70??? I wonder how many of those things they're sellin'??
Thank God for MicroCenter!!! -
Their stores are totally uneven. Some can manage their inventory, some can't. Some mark down obsolete products, so don't. Some hire scuzzballs, some don't.
Some of their stores have large selection of each type of product, some have only one or two.
Their managers seem to have a lot of discretion relative to the merchandise. Find a well managed store and you can do some business. Get one with a loser of a manager and leave in frustration. -

The link is to the discs rated for 2.4x. They burn up to 8x on compatible drives, such as the Pioneer 111D. Other drives aren't fully compatible or compatible at all. For example, the Lite-On SHM-160p6s and BenQ Dw-1650 can both burn up to 8x. But the Lite-On burns them at 4x and the BenQ burns them at 2.4x.
I think the ones louv68 are referring to come in an orange package. They are rated for 8x, will burn at 8x on any 8x capable drive, and will go up to 10x on compatible drives. So far, I've only seen those in 5 packs with cases and 15-pack spindles. -
