Hi,
I am using:
Panasonic DMRES10 DVD Recorder
NEC N4750A DVD Writer on PC (latest firmware v1.03)
Panasonic 3x DVD-RAM Media
I've read on these forums how it is possible to copy and edit the VRO file that the Panasonic creates on the DVD-Ram. However when I try the resultant file is corrupted. When displayed it contains horizontal bars of video from other scenes.
I have tried the following, all of which I have seen recommended for VRO files on this forum, without success:
reading the VRO file from the disc and copying it to the hard drive
renaming the VRO file to a .mpg file
running the file through ProjectX - a 45 min program gave 27,271 errors
editing the resultant m2v file in MPEG2Schnitt - it caused the program to crash
opening the file in Womble MPEG Editor, DGMPEGDecoder, Canopus ProCoder & TMPEGEnc DVD Author.
It looks to me as if it could be either a copy protection feature kicking in or an incompatibility in the NEC DVD Writer. I have seen one report that the user could not edit using Panasonic media as it included "protection" but others seem to have used it successfully.
When scrolling through the VRO file using DGMPEGDecoder you can see that the horizontal bars are always the same pattern but the content changes depending on whether you are scrolling forward or backward. They appear to come from a previous scene rather than an adjacent frame.
The source is a UK DTT broadcast recorded on a Humax PVR9200T and recorded to DVD via Scart.
Help!

If you can do a capture (Womble MPEG2VCR has this feature) and post it, you may get some help. I was seeing problems with panasonic recordings, and LS and GShelly came through for me. Changed some settings in the Panasonics (have 2 of them) and haven't seen it since (vertical bars in half the video).

Thanks for the tip. I've uploaded a few grabs here:

BTW I was wrong when I said that the content of the interference changed depending on whether I scrolled forward or backward.
Any help would be much appreciated, even if it is just an educated guess as to whether replacing the media or the PC writer would be the best bet.
Thanks.Richard -
does it happen with all recordings on? or just one?
-
It happens with all recordings made to RAM discs. I can transfer stuff by using DVD-RW media but it is tedious having to finalize the discs on the Panasonic, then rip them on the PC.
Sorry for starting a duplicate thread - I thought I might have started this in the wrong forum.Richard -
Hi
I have been editing vids from my Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMRE95H) for over two years without any problems.
I bought Panasonic as I wanted to use the DVD-RAM method of transfer.
I did initially have some problems and had to change one of the settings on the DVD Recorder.
I have downloaded your manual and I can't see that you have the Hybrid VBR option, I know it appears to have been removed from the next generations of DVD Recorder after mine.
To edit. I simple:-
1. Copy VRO file off DVD-RAM disc to hard drive.
2. Edit in either Womble MPEG-VCR, Womble Video Wizard or VideoRedo.
3. Save the edited video.
I have never had any problems with this method.
One question, have you edited the video at all on the Panasonic DVD Recorder? -
running the file through ProjectX - a 45 min program gave 27,271 errors
It's a German forum, but you can post questions in English too.GUI for dvdauthor:

This shouldn't make any difference though as the transfers to DVD-RAM are done at high speed. Where as normal recordings are done at a much lower speed.
Do normal analogue tv recordings work ok?
Not sure what else to suggest. -
I've solved the problem. The NEC DVD-RW drive started screwing up when writing ordinary DVDs so I sent it back and the replacement I've received today works fine with DVD-RAM.
Thanks to everyone for their help.Richard
