    Hey guys,

I have 2 seasons of the BBC version of the office that I want to watch om my Divx DVD player.

Normally I have no problem burning and watching .avi files but these are different. They actually are .xvid file types (It says so inside the folder they are in under file type). All the files I have burned that have worked in the past have said 'video clip' under file type.

I cannot even load these into AutoGK, the app I use for files giving me problems. When I open them with Windows Media Player, It gives me a waring box before opening them, saying that it doesn't recognize the extension. I click 'yes' to continue and it plays properly.

Please help me convert these so that I can play them in my Divx DVD player (Yahoo MetroRetro DVD)

    Thanks in advance.

Here's a pic of my folder with the xvid files in it. (In case I wasn't clear)

  2. Try renaming the extension from .xvid to .avi. It may be as simple as that. I play xvid files all the time on my Toshiba SD-3990, they just need to have the avi extension.

You might want to drop the files into Gspot and check the codecs for audio and video. I'm not sure how many players out there will handle audio that is not in wav, ac3, or mp3 format

If they still won't play (after renaming to .AVI) I suggest you re-rip the DVD and encode again with AutoGK.

Is renaming to .avi really as simple as just putting .avi at the end of the file name, or must I do something else? (ie. how do I rename the filetype?)

    Hi Mats,

Thank for your help (again). I figured out why the file extensions were not coming up on my machine and I fixed it.

    I hope this works.

    Cheers
