Need a Basic DVD making program to Replace Nero Vision.

Hello all,
I have been using Nero Vision Express 3.0.127 for a while now but I have a strange issue where at times the sound goes from the normal sound to an awful high pitch hum sound. Link to Noise clip anyway this noise is random and I can't isolate whats causing it. I normally make DVDS from Divx files or from a AVIs that my Camcorder makes since its a HD camcorder. Anyway I will be watching a DVD and all the sudden WAM you get that awful noise for a couple seconds or a couple minutes then the sound is ok again. If I redo the project in Nero sometimes it fixes it. Other times the noise will be in a different place.
It does the same thing on two different brands of DVD players. With everything in windows stoped and it will even do it on NRG files where no dvd is even burnt so its deffinatly software and not my burners.

Anyway I have lost faith in NVE now so I need suggestions on what program to use that is similar to Nero. I need some simple basic things. One to Merge Files is mandatory, be able to make and edit simple DVD Menus and be able to use AVI, DIVX, OR Xvid Files also needs an automatic chaper adding option if possible. Prefer a fast encoder engine also.

Any ideas on how to fix my nero? It does it with multiples versions of 3.x. Or can you suggest a moderately priced or open source program to fit my needs. [/url]

Have you tried the latest nve 4 version?

But I would rather use a good standalone encoder like mainconcept mpeg encoder and a good dvd authoring tool with built in edit like tmpgenc dvd author.

If you want something easy, though without much in the way of editing and somewhat limited menu choices, try ConvertXToDVD. I use VirtualDub Mod first to do my editing. ConvertX is handy for a quick conversion to DVD. I use it for DV to DVD most often. I don't use any Nero product for encoding or authoring. I do use Nero Burning ROM, but only for burning.

The better option for quality and control would be what Baldrick mentioned. Mainconcept or similar is fast and TMPGEnc DVD Author is easy.
