Greetings all...
I have found discussions that are somewhat similar to the problem I am experiencing but nothing seems to match exactly, hence the reason for this post.
I have had the Sony DVP-NC875V for a little under 2 years now. Over the summer, I had been watching a movie and an unexpected and violent thunderstorm caused some brief power outages. Since then, the unit has not functioned correctly. I am afraid a power surge may have damaged it but I am hoping for an alternate answer and/or solution.
Regardless of what kind of media I use (commercial or home burned DVD/CD), the "No Disc" error appears on the display and I am unable to do anything. In addition, the "Progressive Scan" button does not appear to function and the "Super Audio CD" light never extinguishes even though I do not own any SA-CD's.
In addition to trying to change the configuration settings to no avail, I have also disconnected the power cord for several minutes.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Since the problem occured during a power surge, it is almost certainly damaged in some way. You could put it into the shop to be repaired or get another unit. It is most likely much cheaper to just get another player.

I would expect a power surge or low voltage condition to fry the power supply in the player or blow an internal fuse. You might try contacting Sony (or doing some searching) to find out if there is a specific sequence of steps to follow to "reset" your player back to original factory default settings, in case firmware settings have been impacted.

In the hopes that I can get further help from those of you in this forum, I am posting an update to my original problem. I finally had an opportunity to remove the cover and take a peak inside the unit. Lo and behold, the disc was not spinning. A gentle push got it going. With the cover off, I could only see that disc was spinning and that it appeared to be playing something (I could not connect any A/V equipment at the time).
After replacing the cover I reconnected it so I could watch a movie or 2. The main problem I encountered occurred about 15 minutes into the movie. At various points, the audio and video "sputtered" along but it was still viewable. Unfortunately, the sputtering brought the movie to a complete halt. I have tried other movies with similar results so I do not suspect the DVD itself.
So, does this mean the player is hosed? Or is it something else (although I can't imagine what it could be)? I already checked Sony's web site and it would cost me roughly $150 to get a refurbished replacement since this one is out of warranty. I don't know if it is worth the effort. Suffice it to say I am extremely disappointed if this player is truly toasted. Thanks.
