  1. Hi,

I'm trying to spray my silver DVD discs with ghiant satin spray, but they just look a mess everytime...

Looks like they have splashes of oil on it once they have been sprayed...

Im spraying from about 30cm above, at a bit of an angle, moving side to side about 3 or 4 times per disc.

    What am I doing wrong?

Spraying them is a no no .

But if you must . place it on a flat "unwanted" piece of cardboard , sitting the disc on a couple of bottle tops .

Start spraying a light coat 10cm's from one side , and make a smooth pass to the other side ... and allow to air dry for atleast 30 seconds .

The next pass is at 90 degree's from the first pass ... so as to equalize the spraying pattern accross the surface ... allow 45 seconds to dry .

Every pass from there on is at 90 degree's from the previous , and increase the dry time between each pass by the same amount ... as the layer becomes thicker , each pass requires longer drying time .

The reason you start spraying away from the object is for many reason's ... one is for a "clean" dispersal pattern of the fluid which is a must for a perfect finish ... the same technique as uesed when spraying a vehicle ... it prevents drips , runs , and other messed up finishes .

Remember you are dealing with plastic , so water based products will look like crap ... and the same happens with oil based products ... only these can effect plastic by etching into the plastic like acid .

from my experience with spraying painting. I would suggest that you spray by holding it far way and do very thin layers at a time. That way you wont that drip effect. I think spraying it overall is a bad idea.

I used to be into making pretty labels, but not anymore. I rather put the media in a situation to maximize its 'life' potential.

I'd at least keep second, un-sprayed copies, just in case.

Spraying discs? Oh my NO.... I would'nt spray my discs with ANYTHING, and why would you? For protective reasons?

The way i see it is if a disc is possibley getting scratched a bit much, back it up onto a fresh one and you're good to go.

Also take care of your media to keep from scratches/dirt/etc.
