I buy most of my DVDs on Ebay- because of the great deals. I don't buy pirated copies and take reasonable measures before placing a bid to make sure the DVD is legit. I limit my search to US only, (this eliminates a lot of pirates) carefully read the description and check the feedback for bootleg comments.

Last week I was a little lazy and missed a few red flags when buying Underworld Evolution. I did tell the seller that I didn't want a bootleg in the "Notes" section of the Paypal payment. I also told them not to ship it if was a bootleg.

I got the DVD today and the cover is completely different from the one in the auction- the retail US version. Although they did note that the cover was different. Would have been my first red flag had I noticed it before bidding. Anyway, 90% of the writing on the DVD insert is Chinese! According to the case the DVD has Korean subtitles.

The DVD cover appears to have been printed. And there is no security tape on it. I have not opened the DVD because I have no intention of paying for it if my suspicions are correct.

What I'm wondering is if there is any possibility that this is not a bootleg version. I did a google search but cannot find a Chinese version to verify that it's even a legit Chinese version. If it's not a bootleg and I just got the wrong version because I didn't do my homework, then I'll eat it. But if it is a pirated copy I want my money back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What's the media id of the disc? That would usually determine if the disc is a bootleg. My friend bought a japanese dvd from ebay & he wondered if it was a bootleg as well. So I asked to borrow the disc so I could find out the media id and it was a RitekG05 printable disc.

I'm not sure about the media ID because I haven't opened it. It is shrink wrapped and I don't intend to keep it.

I also noticed, after my initial post, that the UPC listed in the auction is different than the UPC on the DVD I received. According to the DVD case, it is region 3- south Korea/ Taiwan/ Hong Kong/ POarts of South East Asia

    Something seems pretty fishy here.

Here is a page that shows the Region 3 Version:
    http://dvd.cdwow.ie/online/dvd-dvd-region-3-underworld-evolution-special-edition-uncut.php

If this is what you got then you probably have a Retail Region 3 DVD.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I checked the barcode and it does not not match anything in the database at upcdatabase.com And the region 3 cover is the same as the US retail region 1 version.

I borrowed the US retail version from a friend- to compare. I noticed that my copy is 79 minutes longer according to the case. This thing has got to be a bootleg. Once I noticed that, I demanded a refund and offered to return it to the seller at their cost. I explained that even if it wasn't a bootleg, it still wasn't what was advertised in the auction- region 1

I got my money back. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this damn copy. I stopped buying TV sets on Ebay for just this reason

    Thanks guys
