I've made a bunch of DVDs in DVD Lab Pro, and all of them have the edges cut off when i play them on a tv but are fine on a computer. I cant figure it out. It cuts off some of the top, bottom, left, and right. Has anyone encountered this before? its irritating because it cuts off part of the text in my pre-subbed anime dvds i made.

You haven't searched too hard, have you. Start in the glossary. It's called overscan. All your DVDs and broadcast TV have the edges hidden on all television sets. This is why editing software and authoring software has the concept of Safe Zones. Keep your text within the Title Safe Zone, and important action within the Action Safe Zone, and you won't miss anything.

Unfortunately, as you have discovered, anime fan-subbers have yet to realise this, or don't care, or are just really stupid. For whatever reason, they refuse to sub with the safe zones.

The only fix is to re-encode your videos with a black border, thus bringing the subtitles in a bit. The simplest solution is FitCD, avisynth and your favourite encoder. Search for these terms and you will plenty of posts with detailed instructions.

I know how to add the border, I can do it with Total Video Converter. I had no Idea that was what the problem was though. I'll have to keep that in mind in the future. Irritating for the animes though, as if I reencode it I wont be able to make it fill the whole pc screen. gah. you cant win in this one i guess. thanks for the tip

I can reduce the overscan on my TV using some "hidden" settings.

No overscan on my 32" LCD. That way they don't have to take overscan into account, so the anime will still be fullscreen on their PC.
