  1. In the capturing of analog video cassettes and VHS tapes, how would you compare Nero Vision 3 to Studio 9 as far as image quality is concerned? Let's consider Moviebox USB as the hardware converter.

Go with nero , the video in studio 9 sucks , much better quality in nero from my usb2 avermedia avertv device .

Note : If usb2 box has no info on "plug n play" , you better play it safe , as my usb2 reset itself from power surge .

Avermedia usb2 devices must be plugged into a powered off computer or use a powered hub between it and pc like I do now .

Avermedia usb2 device consumes 100% of usb power supply from motherboard .

So be cautious and if usb2 is where you want to go , you need to know 2 things .

    1: Check the voltage consumption
2: You will need sp2 for xp for usb2 drivers (ms holds lisence)

PS : My Avermedia avertv usb2 and Avermedia dvd ezmaker dont see macrovision , nice ...

both give top notch video quality for dvd .

Hi there! One of your posts about Studio 9 has just done the trick in giving me the no-no with it My local store sells it but it's rather dear for my budget, so thats answered one question.

My main 'Q' is I want to transfer tapes from a rather older VCR using a scart lead (needs must here!) to my compy. My sound card IS 5.1 but is also a tadge old so thats out for any audio.

I've been advised to go for the Dazzle 90 and use a scart to 3.5 jack & phono lead to connect this-daisy chain. I haven't got a problem with this at all, but was wondering what other nice, helpful users of this forum think? I'm using XP and have 160 HDD & 768 ram (don't ask lol).

    thanks very much.

Bought studio moviebox plus, got no capture using new computer, fast processor, lots of memory. The s video port is too small by about half a thousandth, so my s video plug pulled apart when I tried to remove it. It is now destroyed.

Don't know about Nero, had pretty good luck with it earlier, but have had 2 pinnacle devices which didn't work. Dazzle and Moviebox.

May be some fixes and workarounds out there, but I always buy from a store that will take it back, like Circuit City, not like bestbuy, and if it won't work I take it back.

Sooner or later the manufacturers will catch on and publish software which works when you buy it.

  6. Isn't the Studio Moviebox USB a hardware MPEG2 encoder? Since the Moviebox is doing the conversion to MPEG all the capture program is doing is saving the MPEG stream to a file. So all programs will get the same quality unless a program allows settings that the others don't.

The real issue is: which programs work at all with the device. Many capture programs don't work with USB MPEG devices.
