OK, so I've been trying to encode .VOB to h.264 for a while now. I've tried a lot of methods so far and I've settled on using PowerEncoder AVC as the thing offers nice compression, nice quality, and nearly encodes video in real-time speeds. The only draw back is that there's no way to turn audio processing off, but to work around this, I just use mencoder to rip the raw .264 stream from the final encoded video, and then I put it in a .mp4 container using mp4box which in turn, I put into an .mkv.

My final target is to have video(h.264), audio(.ogg), and subtitles packed neatly in either an .mkv or .mp4 container. I've come very CLOSE to doing this, but I've run into the problem I desribed in the subject title. When I try to skip forward while the video is running, either the player will freezeup, crash, restart the entire video, or freeze at the frame leaving only audio playing while the duration bar still moves.

This problems holds true for any h.264 video I try regardless of how it was encoded. This I've trie VideoLAN, Media Player Classic, and QuickTime. I've also tried using ffdshow and the problem is still there.

Any idea what the problem might be? If I had to guess I would say my codecs, in which case, what is a good codec pack for h.264 video?

I use Haali media splitter and coreavc for mp4,mkv with h264 content. Works perfect.
