I need to buy some ink cartriges for my epson r300. Are the off brand they sell decent to use?

  2. i have r300 and loved it till ink ran out. went to refill place and purchased powercolor brand cartridges. saved $30 but after a week and half the ink didnt want to cooperate. it was registering as empty even though it wasnt and some did dry out. my advice either buy another epson, since it does come with ink, or buy epson ink. I only paid $70 at sams wholesale but flipped when i found out walmart charges $70 for the ink. crikey. might as well go back to sams and buy another epson, sell my old one to an idiot for $30 or $40 and call it a day.

Latest cartridges are "smart", i.e. they REMEMBER how much ink "was" in there. Thus, even if you refill them, they still say "empty". Resetter then gives the chip (in the cartridge) a lobotomy.

so what you are saying that these original epson cartriges have a chip that needs set back to a default. Are you saying the cartriges are refillable and I can do that with a kit of some sort to the original epson cartriges? Would one of those ink refill stores be able to do the same thing?

Go ahead and get the ink from supermediastore. It is G&G brand. You could get a chipretter and refill your own (I used to do that), but for $16 you get all six colors, why would you, trust me it's not worth the hassle. Been using those cartridges for over a year now and I have no complaints.

Is there a way to refill the newer style Epson cartridges? If there is a published procedure, can someone provide a link. I also have an older Epson Stylus Color 880 and these cartridges are a breeze to refill. But on the newer style cartridges like in the R200 and R300 series, the means of putting ink in is by no means clear. It seems like a chip resetter is the least of the problems. You first have to figure out how to get the ink in to start with!

I use C&C cartridges from 0overstock.com in my Epson CX4200. They work well. Their ink is good enough that HP is suing them for patent infringement.

I also used G&G in the past, before I went CFS, and they were great

To refill original Epson cartridges for the R200, R300 series you have drill a hole on the bottom of the cartridge and then plug it with a rubber stop. The kit I used didn't have the correct size stop so I had to special order it. Also note you have to play with inserting & extracting the ink to get all the air bubbles out (must be filled to the top). A very messy undertaking so I suggest using a lot of disposable gloves or you will be walking around with black, cyan, magenta, yellow colored hand for a while. As you probably guessed I don't refill my cartridges any more. I just buy the G&G brand from Rima.com. It's definitely not worth it to save paying $3.00 to $4.00 for a new G&G cartridge.

Is there a web site that describes the location where the hole should be drilled on the bottom of the cartridge? Anything that describes the procedure would be helpful.

The matrixink link is pretty cool. I may give G&G a try. Filling carteidges sounds to be a pain.
    Good points .

  15. If you check ebay out, look for the seller superseller. He sells for Matrix ink but his prices are cheaper. The CIS is $79 or something. It all comes from Matrixink. I have 4 CIS systems and I have refilled them its a peace of cake. The chips auto reset.

I don't work for them, I have just had a lot of success with their products and this seller.

  16. Another place that has refillable cartridges is www.printonadime.com . I ordered some for my R200 with 4oz ink. They work great, with same color output as the original Epson cartridges. They come with reset chip already installed.

I have run at least six complete sets of Supermediastore cardridges in my r300 and the discs still look awesome. It's great ink.
