  1. Mine was a record player.

    Mono, not stereo!

EDIT..... I added reel-to-reel because I forgot about those!

When I was a kid I would go to the hobby store and the owner's son had
a HUGE reel-to-reel player in there. I don't think his dad liked it!

Ditto. And I still recall my first record, the sound track to Disney's "The Jungle Book"

I voted Cassette player because it was the first music player that I purchased for myself. I had a mono record player, a Hi-Fi record player, and a reel to reel tape recorder/player, but I had to share them with my brothers so they weren't really mine.

A crystal radio made in school with a wire attached to the window screen to act as an antenna. Water faucet below the window acted as a ground. Picked up Wolf Man Jack in Mexico.

  5. A portable, mono cassette recorder with a microphone that could start/pause recording. I think it was a Sony.

It was a present for Christmas 1975 - Queen was Number One in the UK with Bohemian Rhapsody. My brother got a pair of stereo headphones. While he was listening to the Top 40 on BBC's Radio 1 on Christmas Sunday night, I had the microphone stuck up inside one half of the headphones. I kept turning the mike on and off so ended up with a rather strange 'mix'. We couldn't afford to buy singles (let alone prerecorded tapes or LPs), so recording hits of the radio every Sunday night was our source. I even think I have one of those tapes lurking somewhere with great hits on it such as Una Paloma Blanca. I won't lament the loss of that tape if it happens to have disintegrated!

A mono cassette player / radio of the obscure brand "Electown". It was made of such cheap plastic that it would start deforming if you just whispered "acetone" within 3 meters of it. It used to regularly chew up my cassettes and tie them into big, decorative knots. I loved it!

Mine was a stereo cassette player. I got it for my birthday in like 1993-94.
    His name was MackemX

Same it was one designed for kids so it closed up into a plastic case. I really put that thing through its paces as a kid.

After that I got a tape player because most places stopped putting singles out on records... well at least most places stopped carrying them.

I had one of those cheesy record players that looked like a suitcase with the speaker built in when I was a kid. In my teen years I had the radio/turntable/cassete combo unit with the obligatory clear plastic lid over the turn table. :P

I believe my first player was a sony walkman - a real one with just the am/fm. I can't remember how many times I must have dropped that thing but kept on ticking....

I know I had a cassette player too in school but the walkman is what I remember most..
