  1. I want to burn 2 VCDs. the files are such:

    CDDA
    CDI-dyv c8 and vcd files
EXT-2 vcd files and 1 dat file
    KARAOKE
    MPEGAV- 2 .dat files
    SEGMENT
    VCD-4 .vcd files

I tried to add the 2 dat files (from the mpegav folder) into nero to burn it but it didn't work!!
anyone know what i should do? any good alternative programs to Nero.

Rip the .DAT files (either the segments from SEGMENT folder or the tracks from MPEGAV folder) using VCDGear or ISOBuster or VCDEasy. They will correctly give you original MPEGs.

Then, author anew (as VCD) with Nero, VCDEasy, etc.

That's the cleanest and most compliant way.

  3. i have isobuster. see, the thing is i originally got these files from a MDS/MDF file. and isobuster only allows me to open the mds/mdf which shows all these files. so then once it shows it, what do i do???

there are 3 different options that start with "extract"...

another thing is there are no files in the SEGMENT folder

Scott is 100% correct, but it might be helpful if you had provided more details. You're definitely leaving something important out. I happen to know that Nero WILL accept DAT files as input for VCD authoring, although for a variety of reasons, such as the fact that Nero doesn't really make 100% compliant VCDs, you probably should use VCDEasy. Reasons why your attempts might have failed could be:
    1) You are not using Nero in VCD authoring mode. For ecample, maybe you are trying to make a data CD.
    2) Maybe you just assumed that if you create a directory called MPEGAV on a CD and dragged the 2 DAT files into it, you will get a playable VCD and that won't work. The other directories contain files that are used for VCD playback, even if you don't understand what they are there for.
    3) You might have a copy protected VCD. If your VCD is from India, you are going to have a LOT of problems copying it.
    4) Your post suggests that maybe you are trying to combine the 2 VCDs into one disc. Are you trying to burn VCD to DVD discs? That won't ever work.

Is there a reason why you didn't just use Nero in disc copy mode to copy the VCDs? What does "doesn't work" mean? It won't burn? It burns, but you can't play it? Again, you provide so few details that all we can do is speculate as to what you did and why it "didn't work".

  5. i downloaded the files online, as mdf/mds format and extracted them using iso buster.. which come out as the files i listed in my original post. i tried to add all these files to nero in VCD burning mode (not DATA disk) and it gave me the following error:

stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super] Video CD
    no video
    no audio

I have no clue why it says no video and no audio when i can play them perfectly on my computer using WinDVD.
Im sure it wasn't 1,2 or 4 from your list. maybe 3 though, but im not sure..

  6. In IsoBuster right-click on the DAT file(s) and select "Extract but filter only M2F2 MPEG frames".

  7. it came out as 2 dat files and one mpeg file.
i tried to open the mpeg file and didn't work.
    i extracted 2 dat files.

Try simply to rename those .dat files into .mpg.

First, if you have MDS/MDF files, why not download the trial version of Alcohol 120% and use that to burn them directly to CD? After all, that's the program that apparently created them and would be the best suited to burn them. Alcohol's website: http://www.alcohol-soft.com/

The second part is the format of those files. Some Karaoke files like that may be made for certain players and/or software programs. As long as they are compliant with the setup you have, you shouldn't have to mess with their structure. This is all assuming they were properly created and not corrupted over the net. A Karaoke VCD is likely more than just a standard format video VCD.
