I am currently trying to backup monster house for my daughter and everyone knows how a 3 yr old handles DVDs. In fact all the Sony DVDs are impossible to backup. I’ve tried DVD fab with ripit4me and it keeps hanging up after about 10 minutes. I am new to this program. What am I doing wrong? Are there any other programs to try?

    ????

Those are the most recent freeware rippers out there that I know of. All I can say is to make sure you have the latest versions of them.

Also - could they be scratched already? Sometimes that could make it hard to rip - just a thought.

    Good luck.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Not sure what you mean; DVDFAB with ripit4Me? ripit4me uses DVD Decrypter for the ripping.

DVD fab should work , but if the disc is damaged in any way , then no tool is going to work .

Hav a look at this tool : Diskcheck (in the blue box on the right)

    http://www.e-systems.ro/QK1.htm

Dont forget to click the "act" to recieve a code .

    A freeware utitlity to scan floppies / cd's / dvd's for error's .

This should tell you if there are any problems you might not beable to see :

Pin holes : Place up to light to see (if so , it's stuffed)
Indent on media side (hiden , caused by disc being dropped from height onto object ... buggered)

Scratch's can be dealt with by using product called "wipe out" , in au / nz , from sanity music store's .
Can repair as many as 100 badly scratched disc's ... even the most severly damaged will come back to life .

Local video store may also provide a service .

  5. This is another one of Sony's attempts to keep discs from being backup/copied. I am in the process of using DVD Fab Plantium 3.0.3.0 but it failed so I went back in and instead of doing a full disc backup I copied the main movie and so far it is working. If it fails this way I will let you know. Your disc is not damaged.

  6. Yes the backup main movie feature using DVD Fab worked great it seems that is the only way you will be able to backup this movie because of the protection scheme added by Sony.

    Tomee333,

My sister was successful using RipIt4Me ("One-Click" + "Full DVD" mode) today to back up her kids' copy of this movie. If it seems to hang up during the rip, you should open DvdDecrypter (before using RipIt4Me), and go to "Tools" - "Settings" and on the "General" tab, put a check mark next to "Cycle Tray After Bad Sectors". It's a good idea anyway because it can cut the rip time in half for current copy protected disks.

She called me this morning because her drive cycled the tray 12 times in the first 10 minutes of ripping, and she thought her computer had gone insane. Other than that, the rip finished in 22 minutes, which is a couple of minutes longer than normal for her computer.

I had her e-mail me the logs, and after DvdDecrypter finished, RipIt4Me removed 174 cells and 2 entire VTSs before the FixVTS "clean and polish" cycle. It's not a new world's record or anything, but certainly obnoxious past the point of good taste.

It does have an autoplay triggered player installation on it, and since this is sony we're talking about, it would be a very good idea to disable autorun on the drive before working with this disk.

    SingSing,

Cycling the tray forces the drive hardware to re-initialize (reset), including flushing the drive's buffers. After a drive error, it "cleans out the cobwebs" and makes the drive stable again. It's kind of like rebooting your computer after a program crash makes it unstable, only just for the dvd drive.

After spending 50 minutes ripping Basic Instinct 2 (it was a gift), I tried it as an experiment. The rip time dropped to 20 minutes. Since then I've tried it both ways on a variety of the new copy protected disks, and it generally cuts the rip time about in half. On a couple of disks, the improvement wasn't as much, but it was still an improvement.

I had a tough time with this one also, but the newest version of DVDfab Platinum (v3.0.3.0) did it without issue. get it over at 9down
