    Hi,

    Im making a video for my friends wedding and have a lots of homemade dvds, wich i want to take sections of and make a movie. How sholud i proceed?

    It depends on what type of editing you want to do. If they are on DVDs, the easiest may be to use VOB2MPG and extract out the video to one large MPEG. Then you can edit with one of the popular MPEG editors such as MPEG-VCR or VideoReDo or others. Then you won't have to change the format. If you are just doing cut and paste, this works well.

    If you want transitions, special effects, fades and more, you may be better off encoding the MPEGs to HuffyUV, PicVideo or DV. These formats are more flexible for advanced editing. For more editing tools, look to the left in 'Tools'. <<<<<<

    There are freeware tools available for all this, depending on how much work you want to do and how much learning may be involved. Another alternative that is easy is Windows Movie Maker. You will have to output as DV, then re-encode it to MPEG-2. Then you author and burn. You will have more quality losses this way though, because of the re-encoding.
