  1. You may be interested to know that Orb is now free.

You can sign up at http://www.orb.com and download the necessary software.

    What does Orb do?

It allows you to set your home PC up as a server and stream audio, video, and photos that are on it to any PC or handheld.

I installed it this evening and was able to access photos and an mpg on my server from both a notebook and a pocketpc.

    Neat! Check it out!

I have an old PCTV video capture card/TV tuner. It's not mpg2 hardware capable and Orb says it does not support non hardware based cards.

Installed it and it works perfect. All my tv channels. My upload is only 218kps and it plays just fine. It comes through at 320x200. Pretty smooth.

I browsed to a 13gb uncompressed capture AVI I had on my pc and streamed it. Worked great!! Prety cool package.

If only I can get VLC to work more then 1 our of 20 tries I could try it as well.

  3. Nice find! I'll be giving this a try. I haven't messed with VLC's streaming ability too much, but this certainly looks simpler to set up and work with. Not to mention the fact that I don't think there is a VLC client for PocketPCs (though if anyone knows of one, please correct me).
