    Greetings,

I'm trying to convert the marriage of my cousin from a VOB to h.264 using the 640x480 ipod video profile.

I pulled the vob using MTR, and used the title only option so I would have one complete VOB file with the entire movie. I checked the VOB file using MPEG Streamer, and it's complete, and approx. 6GB in size. Whenever I try to convert it to h.264 640w, the program goes through to 100%, dings, and when I look at the mp4 file it created, it's only about 160MB. When I play the file in Quicktime, at 11:45, the video goes white and the audio continues. You can click through the movie and the entire audio is there through to the end, but the video stays white.

I have it set using all the defaults, following the instructions here:

    http://www.ffmpegx.com/ipodh264hires.html

Here is my log file for this conversion if it helps:

  2. Is Quicktime Player able to play the VOB until the end?

yup, quicktime was. I did manage to get a good full encode today by deselecting the "decode with quicktime" though. not sure what the difference is, but perhaps something to investigate?

I do have quicktime Pro with the mpeg-2 pack installed also.

On the props side, this is a great program, and now that I can get it goin it did a terrific job with this movie. Just that little bug is one to look at.

and because too much info is always better than not enough, here's the log file that I got when I encoded the exact same VOB as before, this time with "decode with quicktime" deselected:

  4. If this second encode was good, then the problem is in Quicktime, which always had problems in decoding big mpeg-2 files.
