Using mainconcept (adobe) it took over 4 hours to transcode about half an hour of DV footage, after I had capped it to the HD. Is this about how long it takes? are their programs that are faster, I did 2 pass progressive. So is this just how long it takes? or can it be faster with the same quality results?

P.S. Almost forgot the most important part, I'm on a 2.0ghz pentium M, 1gb RAM

Sounds a bit too long - I'd expected half that. CCE is the fastest encoder around.

Unless you are doing massive filtering, your system should be able to give you 1X speed. So two passes times 30 minutes should have only taken you 1 hour.

You also did a progressive encode. Are you sure that your DV is progressive?

yeah...... see turns out the progressive scan was a BAD idea. Put it on my player upstairs and it's jittery constantly (that dvd player is set to 480i output). My dvd player downstairs plays it ok (set to 480p output) Since the idea of putting it on DVD is so I can take it places and play it anywhere I did another one after that was just 2 passes regular 4mb vrb (don't remember the exact specs off the top of my head) but I don't know how long that took because I did it before I went to sleep based on how long the last one took. But that version played fine in both players.
