OK. Here i'm gonna post a few dvd-playing problems ive been facing now:
I bought a DVD with 4 titles, and since i1 of them wasn't working i wiped the dvd with cotton and aftershave(it has workd 4 me many times) , bt the dvd stopped working altogether now. Its got faint abrasions all over its surface.
I hav another perfectly clean and scratch-free dvd. Wen I put it in the DVD-RW(Sony DRU-810A) drive, it just tries 2 read 4 sometime, then stops. Why?
And dis ones the wierdest. In another dvd, wen i put it in the DVD-RW drive, it keeps on scanning the DVD, and in My Computer, the "DVD-RW Drive" changes to "CD-ROM". But the DVD plays fine on myy Sony mini home theatre (MHC-DP900D), which usually is very picky abt DVDs and didn't at all play the previous 2 DVDs i mentioned. btw, dis DVD has only a few minor scratches(not a problem at all)
And yeah, the lenses of both the DVD-RW and DVD player were cleaned.
Thanx

It sounds like your DVD-RW drive has problems. How did you clean the lens?
BTW, you might want to check your Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and see if that drive is still in DMA mode. Windows XP will turn off DMA mode for a device after encountering certain errors during data transfer operations. If more that six DMA transfer timeouts occur, Windows will turn off DMA and use only PIO mode on that device. -
The aftershave i used was Axe Denim. And i checked; the DVD-RW is still in DMA mode.
It wont b possible 4 me 2 get a refund coz i got it from a brick and mortar shop wile i ws away on vacation. (The trip's gonna cost me more than the DVD). I used a CD lens cleaner from Frontech ( a Taiwanese brand if u havent heard) 4 cleaning the DVD-RW.
U sure my DVD-RW is the problem? Seems all my DVD drives r going kaput. My LG DVD ROM died a while ago. Do DVD drives go bad if u use them less 4 reading DVDs and more 4 CDs?
