    Hello All,

I am in the process of converting my old home movies (super 8 film) to DVD. I have a Samsung SC-DC-164 comcorder. I set up a tripod and recorded all the old movies to mini DVDs. What I want to do next is rip them off the mini DVDs, do some editing, add filters (brightness and hopefully clean them up some) then author a new DVD with menus and background music.

I was trying to use some different software to rip the mini DVDs and make them MPG (or AVI which is better???) and use software like VirtualDub to split them up and filter. Everytime I try to open the MPG or AVIs I get an error from VirtualDub that the files can't be opened?

Is there any freeware out there that I can use to accomplish this? I have the software to acutally burn the DVDs (Nero, Roxio) but I would like to try to clean the viseos and add background music before burning.
    Any help would be appriciated.

    Thanks

virtualdub cannot open VOB or mpeg files, however virtualdubmpeg2 or virtualdubmod can. neither can output mpeg however, so you will have to choose a different format when outputting, or frameserve to an encoder.
