  1. Maybe I worry too much but the more I read the more I get worried.

My Phillips DirecTV TiVO box is beginning to fill up with stuff I'd like to keep. I'd rather put it on DVD than VHS. As I research, though, I seem to be running into stuff that says that a DVDR can't record from a digital source. Isn't the TiVO digital? Or does the output get converted to analog.

My hope is that I can just plug in the DVDR the way may old VCR was plugged in and record away. Can I?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dwayne

    hdwaynes,
This is not exactly on topic but closely related.
I have a TiVO box (from TiVO) connected to my tv and my cable box (which also does digital stuff). I can record onto my TiVO any channel that is available (including digital). I also have a wireless USB adapter that is used in concert with the TiVO desktop software to transfer the captured movie to my desktop.
Now, is where the fun begins. The software is encoded or encased in some package that cannot be read by any of the normal software as found on this site. However, Roxio software (and this is NOT an endorsement for their product) can read their format and produce a VIDEO_TS folder replete with IFO, BUP and VOB files. It is painfully slow (much much worse that TMPGENC). But it is a fully compliant DVD folder that can be burned as is or you can load into any editing software that handles VOB files for your editing enjoyment. Of course you will have to re-render to the the file as a DVD file/folder. Small price. But it is a fairly straight forward process to go from TiVO to playable DVD (or edited DVD).

Since a TiVO is a DVR recorder (with out DVD capability) maybe something along the lines above might help you out. I know it is not direct DVD recording but ...

If you are referring to a Standalone DVD burner, then you can just move your input from the VCR to the DVD Burner and record in real time.
