    Hi,

I have a DVD with DVD9 format. When I put in my sony DW-56a and it didn't read the disc. My computer showed no file in the disc when I tried to see what is in the disc. I tried to set the dvd writer as region free using LtnRPC program from http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1965
It still cannot read the disc. One time I triedto set region as either 2 or 7, the writer was showed as a cd--rom other than dvd-rom in my computer. I am not sure right now what is the problem? Is it related to region since I can't see anything in the disc? Thank you very much for your help.

The region setting has nothing to do with your drive being able to recognize the disc. The region code will prevent you from watching a region 1 movie in a region 4 player, for example, but you will get an error message or error screen stating you have an improper region disc.

If the disc is a store bought pressed disc (actual movie disc or whatever) and the drive cannot read it, then you most likely have a drive issue. If the disc is burned, then could be bad or an unsupported disc type.

You not only have to make your dvd burner region free but your operating system has to be region free as well. download and install DVD REGION KILLER.
