An he would make lots and lots of money. -
Yep and it's my job...or I'm a "web programmer" with my own company. I code some other sites too but the main income is from videohelp.com banners / sponsors.

Question: I notice the over all VH has been pretty secure while many other PHPBB sites often get hacked. Is this your special doing?
-
I just install the latest important phpbb security fixes as fast as possible. But I missed one some months ago when a user took over my admin account.
The main site hasn't been hacked....yet... -
Wow. Someone took over your admin account?
His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
Yep, it was possible because I use the option "Log me on automatically" so the hacker only needed a cookie with my userid and autologin set to true. It has been fixed in newer versions of phpbb.
And it was only my phpbb forum admin account....not the server account, I don't use any autologin for it... -
So where are the dubious posts
-
Just wondering since overall the site has seemed okay and to be honest phpBB security kinda scares me away from it

Again I'd suggest going to the phpbb forum, you'll find very few people mentioneing their forum was hacked and where you do they are using an older version. -
I guess I just prefer to have a lower profile. Like using a Mac.
I don't want to mod up a forum and then have no clue how to apply the patch without undoing everything. -
The updates come in a variety of packages. Thje two basic ones are files if you have no mods, simply upload and overwrite. Or a mod script if you have a modded forum. This can be manually applied like you would apply any mod, find and replace, find and after add etc. You can also apply it with Easy Mod which will apply the patch automatically and should work 99% of the time without any hitches. It only becomes an issue where the mod script conflicts with a mod you have applied. In that case you simply stop the easy mod installation and manually apply the lines that have a conflict. Delete them from the mod script and reapply the rest of the mod with easy mod.
