    Hi everybody:

I had an avi file wich audio volume was very low.

I managed to increase its volume using virtualDub, however the new file has more than the double
size now ( 700 MB before, 1,5 Gb now).

Is there any way to make it avoiding that big increase on the file size ??

    hilario.

From virtualDubMod save audio out as wav then open it in goldwave and select maximise volume.
Save to an mp3 192kps and add this audio track back into the avi using virtualDubMod. Remember to disable the original audio track or you will double the audio file size (maybe what happened in the first place)

Um.. I think Goldwave in its trailware state can still manage this.. I think..not sure tho

In VDM or VD go to *streams, *stream list
Here are the audio track muxed into the avi, you will see on the right a small list of buttons. Save as Wav, is one of them also Disable and Enable..relating to the audio track.

When you click ADD from this list to add your mp3 track you will notice that there are now two audio tracks. Click the one you dont want to keep and disable it, it will then look "shaded out" while your mp3 tack should remain the same as before.
When you save this file it will discard the audio track you disabled.

    OK then

Load your video file into virtualDubMod, If you have no preview screens go to options and check (display input) and (display output). You may still only see one screen instead of two because of the size of the video file, if you want to see the output window go to options and check (swap input/output panes)

Now that the video is loaded and you can manage between the input and output panes we can move onto working with the audio track.

Go to Streams and click on (Stream Lists)

Click on your audio stream then select (save wav)
Call it audio_track.wav and remember to type the extention aswell (.wav)

Open your audio editor (goldwave) edit it as you see fit and save it as an mp3@192kps with the name audio_track.mp3

Go back to virtualDubMod which should still have open your stream list and select (add)
Find your audio_track.mp3 and click open, this will add the audio_track.mp3 to your stream list.

From here you will now need to disable the original sound track by highlighting the first stream an clicking (disable)

Now you can save your video file. Click (file) then (save as) and at the bottom click (change) to specify what codec you want to encode with.

select your codec and configure as needed (you can learn more about that in the guides section of this forum << look to your left)

After all that just click save..

There are a few VirtualDubs, VDmpeg VDMOD VDWMV.. They all have there purpose in that some run more stable for a particular files type or can do frame serving mpeg2 files etc etc.. keep it, and if something doesn't work in VDM try it instead.
