i have a ts file with resolution of 1080p and i would like to convert it to x264 using the MKV container. I would like to keep the original resolution of 1080p.
I found a guide in the guide section but its a bit messy and it only converts the file and downgrades the resolution to 720p.
where can i find some more guides on how to do that if its possible at all?
The main reason i am doing this is to get the correct audio track playing as the main and only audio track.
Thanks

i followed this guide http://nwgat.net/guides.htm
the guide seems just fine but it downgrades it to 720p from 1080p.
is there a possibility to keep to its original res to 1080p?
thank you -

A 1080p TS file is a rare find. I've been trying to find a sample.

Unless you have a really fast dual core or dual CPU system, you might want to skip X.264 encoding. I have a 3200+ AMD CPU which is supposed to be the equivalent of a 3.2 GHz Intel CPU and X.264 playbacks sucks big time on my system. I can't play anything back without it looking almost like slow motion, not even 720p encodes. X.264 is too cutting edge for me, but if your PC is fast enough to play it back or you just want to prepare for the future, I could understand that.
I don't know about Europe, but in America no TS files are in 1080p format. If it's in 1080, it's 1080i. Only HD-DVD and maybe BluRay are in 1080p, but those aren't TS files. Maybe the original poster is wrong about his file being 1080p or maybe things are different in Europe. -

In Europe not many channels have HDTV but SKY HD is 1080i. This one i got is from Japan thus the japanase default audio track. But i also have 2 other files with 1080p resolution that the default audio track is english. I dont belive the japanase have their default audio track on english so that two probably came from the US. Dont really know. I just know that they are huge and look awsome on my LCD panel.
I do have other 720p x264 files and they play just fine on my HTPC system. At first i had lots of problems like the ones you mention but then i install some other x264 decoders and it all worked like a charm. At the moment i am using CoreAVC as my x264 decoder on my P4 3.2ghz and it runs just fine with 50% utilization if i am not mistaken.
