  1. I love my two year old 5005. It does everything I want it to do and I've not have any problems with it. In fact, I'm apparently one of the few that was able to load a modified version of the 101 firmware with no problem. But after two years, I'm getting a bit concerned that one of these days it will die and I won't be able to find a recorder with similar capabilities.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding a suitable replacement? At a minimum it must do PAL -> NTSC conversion and be region free. Those are non-negotiable as I have far too large a Region 2 DVD library to lose that capability.

It would be very good to maintain the internal Macro/CGSA override. Yes, I could dub the occasional DVD on my PC, but its far easier to use the extra DVD player direct into the recorder.

An internal hard drive might be interesting. Don't need it as the Echostar DVR I have works just fine for now, but if Echo gets forced to downgrade the record function on their receivers by Tivo, it might be good to have a HD record capability.

    Suggestions appreciated.

  2. Consider Polaroid, HD is a must . You don't have to compromise on quality if recording is too long, you record High quality on HD and could take commercials out later or split make smaller burns etc

Sure... Is there a particular model number? I assume you aren't talking about the DRM-2001G as you said HD?
