I just purchased an HDTV for the den and while setting it up, I noticed that on some channels during some situations there is a weird area in the screen, especially on channels with grey side panels.

Below are a couple of pictures I took.

Does anyone know what is causing this and what I could to to remedy it?

If there isn't some kind of simple fix or something, I'm just going to take this back to the store.

Plasma, LCD or DLP HDTV? My uess is somewhere along the delivery chain something pressed against the screen damaging the pixels. Myself, I would return it for another one.

I agree, I would bring it back and get another.

If the blotch doesn't move, I would suspect screen damage also. This is from a site that sells used LCD monitors with occasional defects:

If you can get it to display a blank screen, then you might know for sure. If it does move around, then I don't know what could be causing it.

This was a big (heavy as hell) tube tv. I called Phillips, they said it was damaged. I returned it and wound up purchasing an LCD that was 6 inches smaller (and about 70lbs lighter), works just fine.

    Thanks for the help guys.

  6. The only thing I can think of (on a CRT) is a damage/defective shadow mask.

I was thinking the shielding for the built in speakers was damaged or defective, I'm not sure though.

It's not my problem anymore :P

The first Loewe I owned developed strange, urine yellow stains across the screen with a few days of being installed. It would deguass OK on shutdown/startup, but the tsains would return after a few hours. I had it replaced, but the new one developed the same problem. Shielding seemed the obvious answerm but shifting it to a different room away from the speakers etc didn't solve the issue.

In the end, the problem was ferrite in the masks interacting with the magnet field in the area I live. It was replaced with a different model that used a non-ferrite mask, and it hasn't put a foot wrong since.

One weird problem I've encoutered is now that I've replaced the old analog tv in the den with this Sanyo LCD tv is that when I'm playing Madden 07 on the Xbox, I notice a slight delay from when I press the button until the action is reflected on screen.
